Kew Fingerless Mitts knitting pattern by West Beach Knits


Inspired by the lush foliage and Victorian architecture of the Palm House at Kew Gardens, these fingerless mitts feature a central lace panel of leaves encased in columns of elongated ribbing. They are designed with a side seam thumb gusset and extend past the wrists for additional warmth. Instructions are both written and charted.


SIZE

One size, adult


MATERIALS

Yarn:
Approx 40g 4ply/fingering weight yarn
Sample uses 35g (148m) Coop Knits Socks Yeah! in ‘Malachite’ colourway.


Needles:
You can use either DPNs or circular needles to obtain gauge.
Recommended size US2/2.75mm, 32”/60cm.


Notions:

Stitch markers, waste yarn for holding thumb stitches, yarn needle.


GAUGE

32 stitches and 44 rounds = 4 inches/10cm stockinette after blocking


SKILL LEVEL

These are suitable for an adventurous beginner. You don’t need to have made a pair of mittens before but should have some experience.


Techniques used include: knitting in the round, ribbing, increasing and decreasing, thumb gusset shaping, casting on in the middle of a round, picking up stitches.
